Preprint 56, "Applying response surface methodology to multidimensional granulation modelling", has been published on the CoMo Group website.
Granulation is a widely used unit operation that transforms powders into larger grains. Often the growth of these particles is promoted through the addition of a binder, meaning that various transformations are observed when conducting so-called wet-granulation. The new preprint presents an extended multidimensional model framework in which the granulating particles are allowed to undergo certain transformations: coalescence, compaction, breakage, penetration and chemical reaction. Process operating conditions such as the impeller speed and the binder composition are reflected in the descriptions of these transformations. Comparisons with experiments reveal an encouraging capability of the new model.
