Investigating Control Options And Evaluating Operating Window For HCCI Engine Operation

Abstract

We investigate the sensitivities of two control options; heating initial charge and trapping residual burned gases, on HCCI combustion and emissions. For this, a probability density function-based engine cycle simulator is implemented to simulate the HCCI operation in a Ricardo engine with EGR. The integrated model is validated against the measurements and applied to develop an operating window for HCCI operation with respect to air-fuel ratio and the amount of EGR used.
